The adventure begins early in the morning, when we pick you up from your riad or accommodation in Marrakech. If your accommodation is located in an area that cannot be reached by vehicle, we will arrange a nearby and easily accessible meeting point. Once the group is assembled, we will begin our journey towards southern Morocco, crossing the impressive High Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, situated at an altitude of 2,260 metres.
This scenic road offers some of the country’s most spectacular views, with deep valleys, magnificent mountains and small traditional Berber villages built from adobe that appear to blend into the landscape. During the journey, we will make several stops to rest, take photographs and admire the natural beauty of the region.
Our next stop will be the magnificent Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic monuments and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This impressive ksar, composed of perfectly preserved ancient mud-brick buildings, has served as a filming location for numerous international productions, including Gladiator, The Mummy, Lawrence of Arabia and the popular series Game of Thrones. Those who wish may take an optional guided tour to discover the history, architecture and traditions of this fascinating place.
After the visit, you will have free time for lunch at a traditional restaurant in the area before continuing towards Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert” and considered Morocco’s film capital.
The route continues through the Anti-Atlas Mountains until we reach the oasis of Agdz, where we will stop to admire the extraordinary views of the Draa Valley. This valley is one of the most remarkable landscapes in southern Morocco. For more than 200 kilometres, it stretches through an immense palm grove dotted with ancient fortified kasbahs, small adobe villages and fertile orchards that contrast beautifully with the surrounding desert landscape. It is the largest date-palm grove in the country and one of the most important oases in North Africa.
As we continue towards Zagora, the landscape gradually changes into an immense desert plain, announcing our arrival in the Sahara. At sunset, we will reach the edge of the Zagora Desert, where the camels will be waiting to begin one of the journey’s most memorable experiences. For approximately one hour, we will ride across the gentle dunes while watching the sun colour the horizon in golden, orange and reddish tones, creating an unforgettable natural spectacle. After the camel ride, we will arrive at the Berber camp, located in the heart of the desert. There, you will be welcomed with traditional Moroccan hospitality before settling into your haima. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner featuring traditional Moroccan dishes. The evening will continue around the bonfire whilst the hosts play traditional music on Berber drums and share some of the desert’s customs and legends with the travellers. Under a completely clear, star-filled sky, you’ll experience one of the most magical nights of your trip to Morocco.
