Tour Plan
Upon arrival at the Casablanca airport in the morning, or after being picked up from your accommodations in Casablanca, we’ll visit the Hassan II Mosque. Afterward, we’ll board the vehicle and depart for Rabat (the capital of Morocco), where you’ll have 2 hours to enjoy the city and its monuments. We’ll then continue on to the city of Fez, where we’ll take you to your accommodations.
Accommodation in a riad with breakfast
After breakfast, the local guide in Fes will meet you at your accommodation at 10:00 AM to begin the tour of the Medina of Fes el-Bali, one of the largest surviving medieval sites in the world. The entire medina—along with its souks and medieval alleyways—is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We will enter through the Bab Boujloud gate and wander through the vibrant souk, navigating narrow, labyrinthine streets while dodging pack mules laden with heavy cargo.
After breakfast, we will depart from Fes toward the Merzouga Desert, passing through Ifrane (often called the "Switzerland of Morocco"), where you will have 20 minutes to take photos and stroll around the town square. Next, we will reach the cedar forests of Azrou, home to wild Barbary macaques—a great opportunity to capture photos of Morocco's wildlife and natural scenery.
We will stop for lunch in the Berber village of Zaida before continuing across the Middle Atlas Mountains, taking in the dramatic landscapes around Midelt on our way to the small town of Rich. From there, we proceed into the Ziz Valley, stopping at a panoramic viewpoint for photos of the lush palm groves below.
In the afternoon, we will arrive in Erfoud, where the Saharan breeze begins to sweep across the Tafilalet oasis. Finally, we reach Merzouga, where we trade our vehicle for a camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes to spend the night at a desert camp.
Accommodation: Traditional Berber desert camp / haimas (Dinner, breakfast, and live Berber music show included)
We will rise early to watch the sunrise from atop the dunes before enjoying a relaxed breakfast. You have the option to return to the hotel either by camel or in a 4x4. Afterwards, we can continue on our route, relax by the pool, explore the dunes if the weather permits, or head out on an optional quad or buggy excursion across the Erg Chebbi dunes.
Next, we board the 4x4 and head to the village of Khamlia, home to the Gnawa—musicians of sub-Saharan origin who will welcome us with traditional music and dance while we enjoy a glass of mint tea (often referred to as "Berber whisky"). You may purchase a CD of their music for €10 or leave a tip of at least €5.
From there, we continue to Taouz, driving along the historic track of the Paris-Dakar Rally to view fascinating ancient rock engravings. We will then pass through the village of Jdaid to enjoy lunch with a local Berber family, savoring traditional Berber pizza (Medfouna) and tea. There will also be an opportunity to get a traditional henna tattoo from a local artisan (tipping the henna artist is customary). If you wish, you can take a stroll around the village of Ouzina and its oasis.
In the afternoon, we will arrive at our hotel set in the Ouzina Desert, spending the night at a charming local Kasbah-style hotel to immerse ourselves in this wild, pristine corner of southern Morocco.
Accommodation: Kasbah Hotel Porte de Sahara Ouzina (Dinner and breakfast included)
In the morning, after a leisurely breakfast, we will head out off-road to visit the nomad families living in the Ouzina area. Next, we will visit the barite mines to see the extraction site and observe how the miners work (barite is a mineral mined locally and exported to Europe, where it is used in glass manufacturing).
Afterward, we will make our way toward the Bourika Oasis to enjoy an outdoor picnic lunch (Moroccan salad or similar, accompanied by grilled chicken).
Following lunch, we will journey toward the "Lost City" of Oubahlou (also known as the Portuguese City), home to ancient Portuguese ruins. We will take a walk around the site before arriving in the afternoon at the Ramlia Oasis, where we can enjoy mint tea at a local café and explore the village and its palm grove. Later in the day, we will head out to watch the sunset over the dunes of Erg Ouzina, taking in the peaceful serenity of this wild desert.
Accommodation: Riad Hôtel Porte De Sahara Ouzina (Dinner and breakfast included)
We will wake up and have breakfast before departing from the hotel at 9:00 AM toward Dades, continuing our 10-day, 9-night journey from the Ouzina Desert. We will pass through Rissani, one of the oldest cities in Morocco and the ancestral seat of the Alaouite Dynasty, stopping at the edge of town to take photos of the iconic desert gate.
Next, we head toward Erfoud, where there is an opportunity to visit a fossilized marble workshop before driving through the lush palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad. From there, we arrive at the Todra Gorges, where the river has carved dramatic vertical rock cliffs that make it a renowned paradise for climbers. We will stop for lunch and take a walk through the canyon to take in the sheer scale of the gorge walls.
In the afternoon, we will continue toward the Dades Valley, where we will spend the night.
Accommodation: Hotel (Dinner and breakfast included)
After breakfast, we will set off toward the Valley of the Roses, stopping along the way to explore if you wish. We will then continue toward Skoura along the famous "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs" before arriving in Ouarzazate, Morocco's film capital. Here, we will pause for panoramic photos outside the Taourirt Kasbah and make another photo stop at the film studios.
Our journey continues toward the iconic Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, an 11th-century fortified ksar designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will pass through scenic stretches of the Anti-Atlas via the Tizi n'Tinfife pass, arriving at Ait Ben Haddou around noon. You will have free time to explore the ancient alleys of the kasbah and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we begin our drive to Marrakech, crossing the dramatic High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass. Upon reaching the "Red City," we will transfer you to your accommodation, leaving the rest of the evening free to experience the vibrant atmosphere of Marrakech at your own pace.
After breakfast, we will depart at 8:00 AM on a day trip to Essaouira from Marrakech. Following a scenic 3-hour drive, we will arrive at the historic port city of Mogador, built on a narrow peninsula alongside a vast crescent of golden sand. Sheltered behind impressive 18th-century French-designed ramparts, the medina is largely pedestrianized and organized into distinct quarters laid out in an orderly grid. From the heights of the Skala de la Ville, you will enjoy sweeping views of the vibrant fishing port, coastal fortifications, and historic Spanish cannons.
Essaouira is also renowned for its refined artisanal crafts—particularly exquisite thuya woodwork intricately inlaid with lemonwood, ebony, mother-of-pearl, and copper or silver threads.
In the afternoon, around 4:30 PM, we will begin the return journey to Marrakech. Upon arrival, we can drop you off wherever you prefer, lea
After breakfast, your local guide will meet you at your accommodation at 10:00 AM to begin the tour at the plaza of the Koutoubia Mosque, adjacent to Jemaa el-Fna. From here, we will enter the UNESCO World Heritage-listed medina, wandering through the narrow alleys of the souk and visiting the primary historic landmarks within the old city: the Saadian Tombs, the Ben Youssef Madrasa, and the El Badi Palace.
Upon exiting the medina, we will enjoy a traditional mint tea on one of the rooftop terraces overlooking the lively Jemaa el-Fna square—"a world in a square," recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Everything in Marrakech revolves around Jemaa el-Fna; this open space comes alive with musicians, storytellers, snake charmers, dancers, open-air dentists, fresh fruit juice stalls, acrobats, public letter-writers, water sellers, and medicinal herbalists.
At sunset, the square fills with open-air food stalls glowing under hundreds of lanterns, drawing endless crowds as night falls. After the tour, the guide will drop you off at your accommodation or leave you in the medina to explore on your own.
In the morning after breakfast (the trip takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes), you’ll be transferred to the airport at your flight’s departure time, marking the end of our 10-day, 9-night tour from Casablanca to the Merzouga Desert in the Moroccan Sahara.
